Third-party educational activities
include any scientific, educational, or professional program, meeting, or event for healthcare professionals conducted by a third party and supported by GSK, including but not limited to, continuing medical education (CME), disease awareness, or sponsorship of symposia at medical conferences.

GSK focuses funding of third-party educational activities for healthcare professionals, also called independent medical education (IME) or continuous professional development (CPD), on initiatives that are designed to close healthcare professional knowledge, competence, and performance gaps to improve patient health.

Prior to submitting a grant, organizations must first register and be approved as an eligible educational provider. GSK accepts educational grant applications in response to a specific Call for Grant Applications (CGA). Grant review criteria, disease areas of interest, and grant submission dates are included in the CGA. As stated in the CGA and our Letter of Agreement, no GSK funds may be used for food, beverage, meals, travel, or accommodation costs for attendees.

GSK is currently accepting IME grant applications for SLE and for EGPA disease education; however, other IME grant applications in response to our posted CGA will be accepted in March 2018, when our new Grant Management System launches. For the Respiratory and Vaccines disease areas, please prepare your grant application in advance, but please wait until March 5, 2018, to submit it into our new system. If you submit a grant application in our current system, we will request that you resubmit the grant application in the new system in March 2018 to be considered for funding.

Please note that you will no longer be able to access this Grant Management System starting February 5, 2018. We are planning to launch a new Grant Management System (that will include other GSK grant types) and plan to redirect you to the new site on February 22, 2018. Your organization data will be migrated to the new system by the February launch, but your historical grant data will not be completely migrated until April. When you first access the new system, you will be prompted to review your migrated organization data (if applicable) and submit additional information required in the new system (including what grant types you are interested in submitting to GSK). We will review all information and render a decision to determine your eligibility to submit grants in the new system (including which grant types you are eligible to submit to GSK). We commit to validating organizations as quickly as possible and plan for a 1 week response (pending volume). Please consider this validation requirement in your timeline for grant submission, as organization validation is required prior to grant submission.

Educational providers must meet the below eligibility criterion:

*Accredited to provide HCP continuing education (ie, CME, CE) by a national accrediting body such as the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), or American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).

Please visit the detailed US GSK INDEPENDENT MEDICAL EDUCATION website to learn more about our educational grant process.
